General Questions
Prices will vary depending on where you go, and what you’re looking for. Here are some general guidelines regarding website pricing;
- You can create a website on your own for free, as long as your domain and web hosting are set up.
- You could also find a cheap freelance web designer overseas and pay a few hundred dollars.
- Another option would be to go to a web design agency, where most of their basic website packages will start at around $3500.
- You could get your website designed by me. I charge between $600-$1000, and you will get the same quality and professionalism that you would get with a web design agency, at a fraction of the cost, due to my low overhead as a freelancer.
- At Cre8tive Digital Solutions, most web design projects can be completed within 1-2 weeks.
- Building a website with a web design agency usually takes between 6 weeks to several months, depending on their workload or if you’re looking for a totally custom website that’s coded from scratch.
- Building a website yourself could take anywhere from a few days to several months, depending on your level of experience, and how much time you have.
A good website will be visually appealing, easy to navigate, mobile friendly, and have a fast loading time. All of these factors will contribute to a good user experience, resulting in a lower bounce rate, and more conversions. It is also important to have good copy (i.e text) and to be optimized for SEO. Freelancing is a type of self-employment, where services are delivered on a contract or project basis. In terms of web design, a freelance website designer will often be able to charge much less than a web design agency, due to much lower overhead. However, It is important to do your research before choosing a freelancer, because if they are based overseas, communication can be difficult. Also, If there is a language barrier, this will often be reflected in the copy of your website. For best results, choose a freelancer that’s locally based, or at least in North America.
Website maintenance involves tasks like monitoring website traffic, updating content, performing regular backups, and updating themes and plugins. For basic website maintenance, it is acceptable to check in less regularly, however for SEO monitoring, it is essential to keep a close eye on things, which is why SEO services are always offered in monthly packages. Check out the SEO section to learn more.
In simple terms, a domain name is your “website name”. It is what users will type into the browser URL bar to find your website. For my website, the domain name is “cre8tivedigitalsolutions.ca”
There are several factors that determine how much traffic a website will get. If you’re a new business with a small social media following, and you don’t run any ads, then without an SEO strategy, you’re website will probably not bring in much organic traffic (i.e less than 100 visitors per month).
Having a website will still be beneficial to your business since it will help you establish a more professional appearance, however, if you’re looking for more traffic, the best options will be to implement a digital advertising strategy or an SEO strategy.
When choosing a web design company, some of the biggest factors to consider are your budget, timeline, and website requirements. For example, if you want a custom-coded website, this will take longer and cost more than a website that’s built with a CMS platform (i.e WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, etc. ).
Other things to look at would be their portfolio and customer testimonials. If you like the style of their web design, and they have lots of positive customer reviews, then there is a good chance that you would be happy with a website from that company.
The Home Page is the most important page on a website. It is where most of your website visitors will land, so it is critical that your home page is visually appealing and easy to navigate. The “above the fold” section on your home page is also extremely important because this is what your website visitors will see before scrolling. So they must be able to know exactly what your business is about and have a clear call to action. This will drastically reduce your bounce rate.
The About Us Page is often one of the most visited pages on a website. People want to know who they are doing business with, and make sure that you are legitimate. This section should include your story, how you got into the business, what makes you different, and a picture of you and in some cases pictures of your staff with their job titles.
The Services/Products Page. For a service-based business website, you should have a page that gives a detailed description of the services you provide. This will help educate your website visitors, give them a better user experience, and make them more likely to book an appointment with you.
For a website that sells products, you should have a page that shows all of the products that you offer, giving more details and categorizing the products in a clear way. There should also be links to your specific products on that page.
The Contact Us Page. Your customers want to know how they can get in touch with you if they have any questions or concerns. Having a good contact us page, with your location, email address/ contact form, and phone number, will help establish trust and make your website visitors more likely to do business with you.
The Testimonials/Reviews Page. Reviews are one of the most important metrics your potential customers will look at before deciding to do business with you. There’s an old saying in marketing; “when you say something about your business, it’s bragging. When someone else says something about your business, it’s proof.”
In simple terms, web hosting is what connects your website to the internet. When you have a website, all of your files, images, text, etc. need to be stored somewhere. Web hosting enables you to store these files in a physical location, called a server. So with web hosting, you are basically renting space on a physical server, which allows your website content to be available on the internet.
Domain names usually cost between $10-$30 annually.
Web hosting can cost anywhere between $5 to $50 / month. This will depend on several factors like whether you are paying month to month, annually, or for several years upfront. The amount of storage that you need is another big factor, websites that get a lot of traffic, or that have lots of videos or images (like an eCommerce store) will require a more expensive web hosting plan. See the pricing page to learn more.
Yes, in order to have a website that’s connected to the internet, you will need a domain name and web hosting.
This will depend on your business goals, but here are some basic guidelines:
If you just want to create an online presence and appear more legitimate, then a simple 1-page website will suffice.
If you have a small service-based business, and you want a traditional website with all of the most important website pages, then having about 5 pages will be enough.
If you want your website to be search engine optimized, then you will need to make sure that your web pages are content-rich, and optimized for your target keywords.
If you have a large website with several products, services, or articles. Then you will need several pages.
Logistical Questions
If you already have a domain name or web hosting, those login details. I will also need logos, pictures, links to social media profiles, reviews, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses, and then during the interview process I will go through a questionnaire with you to find out more about your business.
Before we begin anything we will need to schedule a time to talk over the phone, through a video call, or in person (if you’re based in Edmonton). In this first meeting, we will discuss all of your needs and expectations for the website, and then go over all the details.
After that, we will be communicating primarily through email, but if you prefer to text, or if we need to chat over the phone, then these options are always available.
You can also reach out to me at any point in the future if you have any questions or concerns that come up.
If you’re not happy with your website, then let me know, and I will fix any issues that you have. In most cases, there will be small revisions that I make until you are completely satisfied. In the rare event that we cannot come up with a design that you are happy with, then just let me know within 30 days and I will completely refund your money.
For my standard website packages, I don’t offer any payment plans. I require a small upfront deposit before beginning, and then the remaining balance at the end.
Please refer to the pricing table for a full list of all the website features that I currently offer under my standard website packages. Other features can be added, but we would need to discuss the details in order to come up with a price.
Yes, I will write all of the text/copy for your website. I always recommend that you send over a short paragraph for the “about us” page, however, this is optional. If you don’t want to do that, then I can write it for you based on all of the questions that I will ask you in the initial interview.
WordPress. Cre8tivedigitalsolutions.ca was built with WordPress, as well as all of the websites that are in my portfolio.
In most cases, WordPress will be the best option. However, I have used other CMS platforms in the past, so if you are looking for some small updates or changes to your existing website, then working with other CMS platforms will be fine.
Simple modifications can be made relatively quickly and easily. However, if you are looking for a totally new look/design, then even if the content remains the same, this will require a complete website rebuild. Which will take nearly as much time as building a totally new website from scratch.
Yes. All of my websites are designed to look and function great on all mobile devices.
If you want to make a small update, like adding a few photos, or making small changes to your hours or contact information for example, then I can do this for you at no extra charge. I’ve done this for a handful of my previous customers, and it has never been an issue.
For bigger updates, or major changes to the website. We would need to have a conversation to discuss the price, which would be estimated based on an hourly rate.
Yes. If you have the ability, I always recommend using as many of your own images as possible, but If you don’t have many pictures, then no worries. Stock images are always an option, and they are included in all of my web design packages.
